D2 Amazons BYE
September 10, 2018
This weekend, the Twin Cities Amazons WPL played the New York Rugby Club at home while DII had a bye.
In Fall 2017, the WPL home match against NYRC resulted in a 41-53 loss for the Amazons. NYRC were the 2017 WPL national champions. This year, the match ended in 39-10 win for the Zons.
With the forecast predicting the Zons to lose their match on Sunday, they beat the odds with their ability to continuously keep NYRC on the defensive. The Zons started off attacking hard and carried the strong team connection throughout both halves, only allowing one try to be scored by New York in each half.
“Our goals [Sunday] were to connect and to finish on the opportunities we create. New York is a very solid squad and we knew in order to compete we had to execute and take care of the ball,” Twin Cities captain and capped USA eagle Sylvia Braaten explained. “We did a better job of keeping our intensity high throughout the match but still have much to improve on. We are looking forward to taking the momentum of [Sunday’s] win into the second half of the season.”
After this weekend results, DII is stagnant at 5 points with their bye weekend and WPL added 5 points this weekend for a total of 9 points.
As the Amazons go forward, DII have their away match against the Minneapolis Menagerie on Sat. 15 with kickoff at 10:00am at the Eagan Community Center and WPL will have a bye weekend.
